3 more plumbing problems you should never DIY

For many of us, there’s something highly satisfying about personally tackling a home renovation project or fixing a problem around the house. After all, who doesn’t like an opportunity to dig out the toolbox, use their hands, and finish the job with a feeling of independence and competence? Enjoyable as DIY projects can be, however, when it comes to plumbing, some things are definitely best left to the experts. Here are three more plumbing problems you should never try to handle yourself.

1. A malfunctioning hot water system

Regardless of whether your home is serviced by gas, electric, or solar hot water, problems with your system really do need to be tackled by a professional. Attempting a DIY fix to your hot water unit could lead to potentially dangerous situations such as gas leaks or electric shocks, and may well cause further damage to the unit itself. This means that taking the DIY path here could very well be both dangerous and expensive, so the most sensible decision is always to call in a plumber with the proper expertise and qualifications.

2. A gas leak

It goes without saying that gas leaks are extremely dangerous to you and your family. If you suspect a gas leak, the first thing you should do is to leave your home immediately and call for assistance. Identifying and fixing a leak requires specialized knowledge and equipment, so this is definitely not a job to add to your DIY list.

3. A leaking pipe

While generally less dangerous than a malfunctioning water heater or a gas leak, a burst or leaking pipe is not a job to tackle yourself unless you have considerable experience in this field. Leaking pipes need to be repaired or replaced promptly to prevent water damage to your home, and to minimize disruption to your family.

There are many problems in life which you can tackle yourself, but plumbing emergencies like these are not among them. For the safety and convenience of your family – and to prevent accidentally making the problem bigger and more expensive to fix – you should call in the experts as soon as any of these issues arise. PNG Solutions offer prompt and reliable plumbing services. We pride ourselves on getting to you quickly and taking the stress out of your emergency, so if you find yourself facing a problem too big to DIY, give our expert plumbers a call to see how we can help.
