Common hot water system questions
You’ve asked, we’ve delivered.
Here are your top three questions when it comes to maintaining, installing and choosing your home hot water system.
#1 - What are the different hot water systems available?
There are four main types of hot water systems that are suitable for your home – each differ slightly depending on your needs, budget and water consumption of you and your family.
The storage tank
The first is the storage tank hot water system. Available in a range of sizes, this option provides you with the lowest hot water supply of the four, but could be perfect if it is just you, or you have a small family living at home.
Offering lower running and installation costs, most tanks come with up to a ten year warranty, with all other parts offering a one year warranty.
Instantaneous hot water systems
This gas hot water system offers you immediate hot water in an endless flow each and every day. Installed on a wall inside or outside your home, these systems mean your home will never run out of hot water.
With higher installation and running costs, the instantaneous system can operate with both natural gas and LPG options depending what suits your home.
Continuous flow hot water system
This system is similar to the instantaneous system above as once installed, you have a continuous flow of hot water to your home.
The key difference to this system as opposed to the instantaneous system is the way it is run – with the continuous flow hot water system operating by both gas and electricity, increasing it’s reliability in the home.
The cost of installing this system is higher than the rest however running costs are generally more economical, saving you money in the long run.
Solar Hot water system
Using the power of the sun to heat your water is the most eco friendly and cost effective way to have hot water in your home, saving you up to 30 per cent on your energy bills each year.
This hot water system runs mainly by the solar panels in your home, and boosted with the gas storage tank system to ensure you have running hot water, even on those cloudy days.
It does have the highest installation cost out of all the hot water system options if you don’t already have solar in your home, these panels will have to be installed first.
However it is the most energy efficient system available, producing the least greenhouse gasses into the environment, as well as being the largest money saver of the four as well.
#2 - Which is the best company for a hot water system?
Depending on budget and your specific requirements, there are a number of great brands of hot water systems available on the market to suit you.
Some trustworthy heating systems we like to recommend include Rheem, A.O. Smith, Bradford White, Rinnai, Ecosmart, GE Geospring, Bosch and Stiebel Eltron.
Need further information on any of these brands? Give us a call on 0438 482 202 today and our friendly team of experts will be happy to help.
#3 - What will be the best option for installing my new hot water system?
There are a variety of different hot water systems on the market, so if you are looking at installing a new unit we recommend asking yourself the following questions first:
- - What is my hot water usage?
- - How many people live in the home?
- - What is my budget?
- - What are my yearly energy running costs?
- - How effective has my current hot water system been for my home?
Once you have a good idea of the above, give our team at PNG Solutions a call or send us an inquiry and we will be able to assist you with your next step.
Common hot water system problems
Have a problem with your hot water system?
Or even worse, don’t have any running hot water at all? Don’t delay in getting it checked out by the experts – after all, cold showers are no one’s idea of a good time.
Here are the three most common problems you are likely to face with your home hot water system:
#1 - Unusual noises
All hot water units can make a subtle thud or banging noise once in a while, however if your hot water system is continually making odd noises it might be time to get it checked out.
Unusual noises in a hot water system can sometimes mean there is a fault in the unit, and an emergency plumber will need to be called out as soon as possible.
The difficulty in this issue is the diagnosis – what is ‘normal’ and what is a fault can be extremely challenging to work out. So it is best to call out the experts to take a look.
We offer flexible call out options to suit you – so if your hot water system is making more of a bang than normal, we can help.
#2 - Water leak
A water leak on your hot water system is normally found at the bottom of the tank, and if left without repair it can quickly cause more serious problems to the unit.
Most likely the cause of this leak will be due to a faulty or blocked valve, meaning your system may not be able to release the water pressure, resulting in expensive damage to your home unit.
#3 - No water pressure
Having no water pressure is a huge frustration for any homeowner, and one that needs to be sorted out as fast as possible.
Low water pressure, or no water pressure at all, in your home hot water system can be caused from various issues including blocked or closed valves, a failing pressure regulator, water leakage, or even an outdated hot water system that needs replacing.
